Day one
Got up this morning and got my first English breakfast
. After that we had to rush to the dome for the Adobe keynote that was a bit messy but very amusing. The Adobe-folks showed some things from Flash CS4 (some pritty cool stuff) and a new app for the next CS codenamed Thermo. This app lets you create an UI for e.g. flex from a psd.
One coffee later the first real session started and for me that was “50 reasons as3 kicks ass” by Grant Skinner. And what we got was just that, an overview of 50 things why you should make the switch to as3.
After Grants session I followed a session by Chris Orwig called “Story. Branding. Visual design.”. He gave a nice talk about your own branding and how you need to be aware of how people look at you(r job). He made a very true point: A novelist says in 20000 words what a poet does in 20. Think about it…
For the next session I changed my mind and went to Lee Brimelows session, “AIR for interaction designers”. It was just an overview of some AIR functionallities. I actually wished I had stayed put and went to “Self promotion” by Carole Guevin.
Hoss Gifford was next with his session: “The rest of the iceberg”. Did not learn anything but got motivated to have some fun and do a project for myself… dont know what yet
.
Without any doubt, the next session was the greatest of the day! Joshua Davis just rocked on that stage. He motivated and inspired me a lot! Just want to play around now with the ideas he gave…
He showed how he created art from some silly shapes and a few simple lines of code… He really is an artist!
After some rest, a shower and a good meal, we where ready for a inspirational session by Bredan Dawes called “If it aint broke – break it!”. It was a fun session, but I guess no one could beat Joshua Davis :-p.
We all where invited to queue for the casino party, wich was not really my thingy so I was gone there soon…
Ready for a new day now, but first: get some sleep…
