Helvetica, the Swiss font

January 15th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in typography

CoverLast year, helvetica celebrated its 50th aniversity. For this occassion Gary Hustwit produced & directed a documentary about the typeface.

The movies allready got 4 nominations in (documentary) movie festivals.

‘Helvetica encompasses the worlds of design, advertising, psychology, and communication, and invites us to take a second look at the thousands of words we see every day. ‘

She wrote it about a year ago, but I just got to know her and her blog.

This week my copy arrived.
Its nice to have to have some background on a typeface you and the rest of the world users almost every week :-) . The movie includes lots of scenes where Helvetica is used and interviews with numerous designers and typographers.

It’s not really useful, but if you’re a factfreak (like me ;-) ) it’s worth watching it.
